During the break a bunch of people came up to visit Seattle which meant that I not only got to see a group of great people that I don’t usually get to see, I also got back in touch with some of the Seattlites who came out for the group get-togethers. It bothered me a little that I haven’t seen more of them so I shared some information about myself with them.
1) If you are going out to do something strange or unusual (read: anything more than drinks/dinner) it is extremely hard for me to say no, especially if you give me a couple days warning. Seriously. I will be your bungee-jumping, square-dancing, segway-riding, steampunk-dressing companion. All you have to do is ask.
2) In the rare case that I do say no to something (and it’s not a financial or previous engagement reason) remember this key piece of advice: I bend like a reed. If you apply enough pressure and ask me enough times, or simply whine, I will probably go ahead and agree. It doesn’t take much.
Luckily for me, some of the people I talked to took this to heart. This means that I have been up to my neck in awesome events and coolness. So far I’ve been to a ballet preview of Cinderella (done at the ballet school at the Seattle Center and filled to the brim with adorable little ballerinas and their friends), watched my favorite movie of all time on the big screen (“Mul-ti-pass” and at my new favorite Central Cinema- they serve food and beer and show all my old favorite cult classics and host crazy sing-a-longs, I’m glad I finally found a Loft substitute), gone to a lovely lecture about Teddy Roosevelt (turns out that he was quite the intellectual, read heavily, understood a lot, traveled extensively and had a photographic memory- I may have a new favorite president), gone snowshoeing (good snow is less than an hour away from me!), and developed a new favorite cocktail (which came in hand with finding a former mob-bar turned classy-neighborhood-hangout).
And that’s not including Moth Up (stories told live in front of an audience), various movie nights or skating activities that I was already doing.
Needless to say I’m happy that this week is a light one. Although I did just find out that Central Cinema is showing Groundhog Day on Wednesday…
TEE-HEE! I took you seriously,square-dancing, segway-riding, steampunk-dressing companion. (Note I didn't say bungee-jumping. Shit is bananas.)
