I seem to have a habit of writing things that I don’t really want to post up here on this blog. But I’m going to be featured on the BePreparedPeriod.com blog within the week with a story about, you guessed it!, periods.
So… yeah. The blog is meant to be a source of information for young girls who might be afraid to talk to their mother’s about what to expect, and I’m happy to share my story with them. For the rest of you, it’s a blog about periods and experiences with them. You have been warned.
As for what else I’ve been up to, well, I’m mostly just preparing for the Grand Canyon backpacking trip that is happening next month. Despite having lived in Arizona for most of my life I’ve never been to see it, and I’m super excited to spend four days hiking it with my dad and brother.
But I’m a little concerned that I’ll be left in the dust, so I’ve been training. I’ve been carrying weight with me wherever I go (and two gallons of water is surprisingly heavy in your day to day activities), walking to or from work (a little less than six miles one way), and doing at least nine reps of four stories of stairs a day with weight.
I really really hope this will be enough to help me keep up with everyone else. Although it’s more than just that, I suppose. I’d also like to enjoy my trip around the canyon and would like to be in good enough shape (and with feet that are used to my boots and tons of walking) that I don’t spend the entire trip looking at my feet or with my eyes fixed dizzily on the hiker in front of me.
The result has left me a little tired, a lot hungry, and with a weight that fluctuates strangely despite the thousands of calories I’m burning a day (maybe it’s muscle being built?). But by god, I’m going to be ready.
Or so I hope.
